Our Story
The Beginning
In 2016, Nashville Hat Company was born out of my desire to revive a cherished felt hat that had lingered in my closet for years. Having worn this western hat for nearly 15 years during my music career in bars, I found myself no longer dressing in that style after my musical journey concluded. One day, while watching a Bruce Willis movie, I noticed a hat with a crown shape similar to mine with a trendy up-curl brim. Inspired, I sought to transform my hat’s brim and wear it again.
Unfortunately, local hat makers in Nashville showed little interest in altering the brim. Undeterred, I turned to the World Wide Web, where I unexpectedly discovered guides on manipulating felt. Intrigued by the process, I delved deeper, experimenting with old felt hats and even sourcing hat bodies from a supplier in Winchester, TN. With affordable seconds at my disposal, I began crafting hats, initially for family and friends.
As my skills developed, I felt the urge to learn from a seasoned hat maker. Enter Mike Moore of Buckaroo Hatters in Covington, TN. Spending a few days under his guidance was transformative, enhancing my knowledge and refining my skills.
Throughout my varied career, I’ve never experienced a job quite like hat making. What was initially a personal project evolved into a passion that doesn’t feel like work. Each morning, instead of thinking, “I have to go to work,” I wake up excited that I get to make hats. It’s an unparalleled experience.
Our Growth
In 2016, Nashville Hat Company embarked on its journey by crafting hats for close friends and family while honing his artisanal skills. As word of mouth gradually propelled their work into the spotlight, NHC experienced significant growth. Throughout this journey, Rod discovered his true calling in the art of creating bespoke, one-of-a-kind hats. Today, Nashville Hat Company proudly stand as a prominent name in the realm of custom hat craftsmanship humbly rooted in their passion for the craft and their commitment to crafting unique pieces that captivate their clients.
